A fundraiser sponsored by the Homer Glen Area Chamber of Commerce and hosted by Village Clerk Ann Holtz and business owner and Homer Glen resident Ruben Pazmino, Rubi Agave owner, will take place Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Rubi Agave, located at 12622 W. 159th St. in Homer Glen.

Doors open at 7 p.m., with raffle registration and silent auction beginning at 7:30 p.m. and drawings beginning at 10 p.m. for the fundraiser, with proceeds going to the Alexandros/Gatses family, who are longtime residents of the Homer Glen community.

The family lost its pets, cars, belongings and home in the Pebble Creek subdivision last month to a fire. All members of the family were able to safely get out of the house in time. The fire started in the garage and took less than eight minutes so spread and engulf the entire house.

Friends and neighbors have stepped up to help the family, including helping them find warm clothes and shelter. Donations of clothing, toiletries and food have been collected by friends and neighbors, and much remains to be sorted through.

The family is still living at a hotel while looking for a temporary home within the school districts the children attend, and there is little room at the hotel to store donations.

The silent auction at the event will feature donations from Homer Glen businesses and residents. There will also be a jewelry event showcasing Premier Designs, with all proceeds donated back to the family, as well as a free giveaway for a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes (no purchase required, though individual must be present to win), courtesy of Pazmino. Everyone who attends will receive a free ticket for the drawing, and additional raffle tickets may be purchased, with all proceeds again donated to the family.

The event will have a live DJ, food, cocktails and is free admission.
