Young visitors to the Homer Township Public Library and their parents got to go to “Frosty’s Winter Wonderland” on Dec. 8 through a special holiday performance by Dave Herzog and his Marionettes.

The hour-long puppet show featured holiday music and a colorful cast of sixteen holiday-themed puppets including Frosty the Snowman, Jack Frost, Santa Claus, a figure skating nutcracker, and, a favorite amongst the children, George — an elk with a stuffy nose who is tired of being mistaken for Rudolph.

Nearly 70 local high school students recently earned Girl Scouts of the USA’s most prestigious national honor for girls, the Girl Scout Gold Award. Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana honored their accomplishments during a special ceremony in June at the Chicago Marriott Oak Brook.

Homer Jr. High is asking for donations to Stephanie Moore’s “Rolling into the Maker Classroom” project on DonorsChoose.org.

“I have never seen so much excitement for learning in my 10 years of teaching,” said Moore, who hopes to supplement the learning materials used in Homer Jr. High School’s new STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) lab.
