In the darkened auditorium at Lockport Township High School East Campus, the red curtain pulls back on the freshman choir singing “Hosanna Deo” written by Greg Gilpin. The choir, directed by Chad Goetz, opened the annual fall concert with an exciting and dynamic piece. 

The Fall Concert, the first choir concert of the school year, was held at the East Auditorium Thursday, Oct. 15, and featured all five choirs.

The annual Lockport Township High School Variety Show hit the stage at East Campus Feb. 7 and 9, featuring more than 30 acts. The event intends to serves as a fundraiser for the theater department, but is also a way for students to have an outlet for their creativity.

In late May, some of the state’s elite stars will make the track trek to downstate Charleston and spend some time showing off their skills at the Illinois High School Association state meet at O’Brien Stadium.

It’s a dream that just about any athlete who is running, jumping, throwing or vaulting has – from inner city athletes in Chicago to kids who live in towns with more cows than cars.

Those dreams get started now and athletes from this area are trying to make them a reality.

Young visitors to the Homer Township Public Library and their parents got to go to “Frosty’s Winter Wonderland” on Dec. 8 through a special holiday performance by Dave Herzog and his Marionettes.

The hour-long puppet show featured holiday music and a colorful cast of sixteen holiday-themed puppets including Frosty the Snowman, Jack Frost, Santa Claus, a figure skating nutcracker, and, a favorite amongst the children, George — an elk with a stuffy nose who is tired of being mistaken for Rudolph.

Nearly 70 local high school students recently earned Girl Scouts of the USA’s most prestigious national honor for girls, the Girl Scout Gold Award. Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana honored their accomplishments during a special ceremony in June at the Chicago Marriott Oak Brook.
