Homer Township Fire Protection District trustee will now be an elected office thanks to a referendum passed by residents Tuesday, Nov. 8.

The measure was passed with 87.1 percent of voters in support, and 12.9 percent in opposition, according to unofficial results from the Will County Clerk’s Office.

The three-member Board of Trustees is currently appointed by the Homer Township board. Under the new referendum, residents will elect members to the Fire Board for six-year terms, up from the current three-year terms.
