Providence was locked up in an old-fashioned defensive battle Friday, Sept. 4, at Oswego’s Ken Pickerill Field.


Unfortunately for the Celtics, the host Panthers just had a little more offense then they did. The Celtics shut out the Panthers in the second half, but their rally fell short in a 14-13
defeat.


It was an especially hurtful loss for the winless Celtics, who begin play in the Catholic League Blue Friday, Sept. 11, against Mt. Carmel.

After dominating the first game, Lockport anticipated the Tigers would fight back — and they did. The two squads traded points in the early goings of Game 2 before the Porters’ Patrick Surane unleashed an untouchable cross-court kill, sparking a five-point run that helped his team pull away. Surane led Lockport with five kills and five digs en route to a 25-13, 25-15 win over the Tigers Thursday, March 30, at Joliet West High School.

Coming off its best season in nearly 30 years, the Tinley Park football team will have to reload in order to do it again. Only five starters return from last year’s team, which went 9-3 and became the first TPHS football team to advance to the quarterfinals since the 1986 Class 4A state championship squad.
